About the project
Foothill Transit, which operates 39 bus routes throughout Southern California, required a complete UX overhaul to better serve its diverse rider base across devices. Goals included making the Trip Planner more intuitive, integrating real-time schedules and alerts, enabling user-managed notifications, restructuring the site architecture, and aligning the experience with WCAG 2 accessibility standards to ensure inclusive access for all.
Insights from competitive analysis, stakeholder interviews, user journeys, sitemapping, and wireframes informed key user interface decisions, ensuring the design aligned with both rider needs and organizational goals. I created high-fidelity designs that brought clarity, cohesion, and visual refinement to the experience, while also prototyping to test interactions, refine usability, and explore micro-interactions — ensuring the final product felt intuitive and responsive. Close collaboration with UX and the development team helped bring the experience to life with accuracy and consistency across devices.

The final solution delivered a mobile-friendly website with an app-like experience, centered on a refined and accessible user interface. Core features such as trip planning, schedules, maps, and real-time updates were seamlessly integrated, allowing riders to plan trips and stay informed on the go. A cohesive design system ensured brand consistency across all devices, reinforcing trust and usability.
The streamlined interface and attention to detail were recognized with Best Mobile Visual Design and Function honors, celebrating its innovation and effectiveness in public transit design.
